The Powerhouse Museum is located in Sydney, the capital of the Australian state of New South Wales. The museum is housed in the former Ultimo Powerhouse, hence the museum name. This Powerhouse was commissioned in 1899 to supply power for the electric tram network. The most important rail exhibit is Locomotive No. 1. It was the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger train in New South Wales, built by Robert Stephenson & Company in 1854. The museum also houses Sydney’s Central Station indicator board built in 1906.
